Getting started
To speak with loved ones, first choose their variety. The official Dialect guide announces courses in Kabyle, Tarifit, Tachelhit and Chaoui. The IRCAM DGLAi dictionary and the resources of the Berber Research Center meet other needs, including word consultation and documentation.
Define your learning goal
Ask the people you want to speak with what their language variety is called and where it is used. The Centre de Recherche Berbère explains why Central Morocco Tamazight should be distinguished from the broader use of the word Tamazight.
For family conversations, choose a course in the variety your relatives use rather than relying on a broad course title. For reading, the script and vocabulary also matter. Our guide to Tarifit, Tachelhit and Tamazight helps you choose.

Check the current conditions, the language of the explanations and a sample lesson before choosing an offer. Free access initially does not mean all content is free.
Listen to a sample before choosing
Choose a greeting or question that your loved ones know. Listen to the example of the resource with them and ask if this form corresponds to their use. A difference may be due to region, register, or other variety; it must be understood before using it as a model.
Also see if the tool offers complete sentences, a clear meaning and the possibility of replaying. A list of picture words can be a useful addition, but it does not prepare all the answers in a conversation.
Latin script and Tifinagh
Choose a medium whose examples you can read, then gradually develop your bearings in the other writing if that serves your purpose. Changing the alphabet of a word is not translating a phrase from one variety to another.

What place for SayDarija?
This site is published by SayDarija. Our application offers Kabyle, in addition to Moroccan Darija and Algerian Darija. The Kabyle section brings together guides for getting started, understanding messages and reading Latin notation.
The App Store profile mentions Amazigh in its subtitle and especially details the Moroccan course. The presence of Kabyle does not mean that all Amazigh varieties are offered: for Tariffit, Tachelhit or Tamazight from central Morocco, choose a resource whose coverage corresponds to your needs.
