Best apps to learn Moroccan Darija

An application can help you memorize words, listen to Moroccan voices or prepare for a conversation. Here's how to choose according to your goal.

Getting started

To prepare for discussions with an AI tutor, watch SayDarija. To work on expressions with recordings and games, look into uTalk. To follow lessons in a browser with Moroccan voices, watch darji. The right choice depends on your device and the way you practice.

Three options to compare

This guide is published by SayDarija, who is featured in the selection. The comparison is based on official descriptions consulted on October 23, 2026; it does not constitute a practical test or an independent ranking. The links allow you to check current offers.

Choose according to a concrete situation

You are going to Morocco: looking for a lesson on your next need: arriving at the riad, ordering or taking a taxi. A list of words is helpful, but also see if you can recognize a response and rephrase your request.

You want to talk to your family: favor discussions that you can resume with your loved ones. An open conversation feature can help you rehearse; a recorded voice provides a stable pattern to listen to.

You're a complete beginner: try a short lesson before subscribing. You must be able to understand the instructions, find a learned sentence and hear its pronunciation. A translated interface does not guarantee that all course explanations are translated.

What SayDarija offers

The App Store listing describes explanations in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch, with display of darija in Arabic and Latin characters. In particular, it presents travel scenarios and phrases to save.

This operation is suitable for contextualized requests: prepare for your arrival at the hotel, then ask for a shorter answer or another wording. Have an unusual expression confirmed by a Moroccan speaker: an AI-produced response may require correction.

A ten minute trial to decide

  1. Choose a real need, for example asking what time breakfast starts.
  2. Find a phrase and listen to it several times.
  3. Close the text and try to say it.
  4. Look for a possible answer, then check if you understand it.
  5. The next day, find the sentence without starting the whole lesson again.

Write down what helped you: a clear voice, a useful translation, an exercise or a conversation. This little test gives a more personal choice criterion than the number of features announced.

And Duolingo or a Tamazight course?

Always check the language taught. The Arabic course described by Duolingo focuses on Modern Standard Arabic; our Duolingo guide and darija explains how to complete it. For an Amazigh language, choose the variety first: check out applications and resources for learning Tamazight .
